Electrical Inspector

CME is seeking an experienced Electrical Inspector to support construction management efforts on transportation and public infrastructure projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate will perform field inspections of electrical installations on highway, roadway, and transit projects, ensuring all work conforms to project plans, specifications, and applicable codes.

Previous Caltrans and/or public agency electrical inspection experience is highly desired. The position will require familiarity with CME’s documentation and eInspection tools. The successful candidate may be required to work on multiple concurrent projects at various Bay Area locations.

Day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Inspect electrical installations including roadway lighting, traffic signals, conduit and wiring, switchgear, and related systems at various stages of construction through completion.
  • Verify contractor work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, the National Electrical Code (NEC), California Electrical Code, and Caltrans electrical standards.
  • Review and interpret electrical blueprints, shop drawings, and submittals for conformance with contract documents.
  • Maintain a daily construction activity log, inspection reports, and other documentation including photographs per client and CME requirements.
  • Identify and document non-conforming work; issue corrective action notices and track resolution through completion.
  • Coordinate with project managers, construction managers, resident engineers, and utility representatives to resolve field issues.
  • Monitor the implementation of safety requirements at construction sites, including compliance with Cal/OSHA electrical safety standards.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, and final walk-throughs/punchlist inspections.
  • Oversee material testing and specialty inspections related to electrical installations as specified in construction plans and specifications.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical inspection on public works or transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code, California Electrical Code, and Caltrans electrical standards and specifications.
  • ICC Electrical Inspector certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, specifications, and schematics.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills; proficiency with inspection documentation tools and Microsoft Office.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation.
